How often do the scouts meet?
The entire pack usually meets once a month on the fourth Wednesday of the month. Event calendars are provided several months in advance to help plan schedules. The individual dens usually meet a few times a month, at a time and location selected by the den participants. Most of the advancement activities occur at the den level. The pack also plans one major event each month such as a hike, campout, Pinewood Derby, on a weekend day. The pack meetings and den meetings are held usually in the Hamilton and Waterford area, the campouts and other activities are usually within an hour’s drive.
How much are dues?
Dues are $60 each year due at the first pack meeting in the fall.
Do the parents have to attend each function?
Parents are required to attend most functions with the boys, and parents are requested to help run at least one pack event during the year. The entire family is welcome at each of the pack activities. Cub Scouting is a great way to spend quality time with your child, participating in fun events and learning together. A side benefit is meeting lots of other parents who share a common interest in their children’s lives.
What are the parents required to do for fundraising?
Pack 969 has three primary forms of income: 1) dues, 2) pre-packaged popcorn sales, amd 3) a booth at the Waterford Fair. Parents are requested to help for a half day shift at the fair, manning the booth, and to sell the popcorn to family and friends.
Do I have to buy the WHOLE uniform right away?
NO! Hat, shirt, neckerchief and slide are recommended right away. Pants, belt, socks can follow. Uniforms make great Christmas presents!!
Where do I get uniforms?
Our local resource for uniforms is Leesburg Hobbies and Collectibles. Detailed information is available on their website www.leesburghobbies.com including hours and phone number.
Can I bring a friend?
Yes, as long as he is in the first through fifth grade.
When can I join?
Anytime of the year between 1st and 5th grade. If a boy wants to join in the third grade for instance, he should be placed in the appropriate den with boys his age. He may have a small amount of make up work to do along the way to meet the basic requirements he would have completed in his earlier years of Scouting. This would include (but not be limited to) learning basic 'Cubbing' principles such as the Cub Scout motto and Law of the Pack for example.
